About this Role:

Ambitious/experienced Senior Design Manager required by this busy national contractor, with offices in Central London and Hertfordshire, to work initially with the preconstruction team on the second stage design development for a £25m new build commercial office scheme, due to commence later this year.

The scheme comprises the construction of a new build RC framed multi-storey office development in London.

Reporting to the Head of Design, you will initially work closely with the preconstruction and commercial team prior the commencement of the works on site in the summer; Then working closely with the project delivery and commercial team, you will be responsible for:

Management of the design development for packages of works;

Chairing regular design team meetings;

Management of consultant design team;

Regular liaison with client, architect, consultants and the construction teams;

Managing specialist sub-contractor design teams;

Agreement of information required schedule; Ensuring key dates achieved;

Review of construction design information for buildability, compliance with contractors proposals, employers requirements, budget, current building legislation, etc;

Identifying opportunities for value engineering opportunities where appropriate;

Proactive issue resolution;

Overall managing the smooth and timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction throughout the build process to completion late 2020/early 21

On completion of the initial project, you will also be responsible for critical input to tenders and second stage preconstruction with the regional business.

About the Company/Client/Project:

The company is a leading national main contractor, with experience and a proven track record in the delivery of complex new build and refurbishment schemes in commercial office, secondary education, higher education, and transportation sectors in the London and Home Counties areas.

Turnover is circa £100m for the region overall.

Requirements including certificates and qualifications:

Either from an Engineering/Construction delivery or Architectural background, you will possess excellent technical and commercial knowledge, a keen understanding of construction methodology, materials and systems, procurement lead in times, etc. 

You will have excellent communication and negotiations skills, strong planning and problem solving ability, initiative and a positive approach.  In terms of character, you will be a highly driven, positive and ambitious individual able to work well within a large team dynamic.

You will ideally have a proven track record of successful project delivery with a recognised Main Contractor in a Design Management role, and ideally have previous experience of working on MOD schemes on the DIO framework.
