Description

About this Role:

Construction Planner required to work with the Regional Office of this busy main contractor group, based in north Hampshire, but working on several live education schemes in the Thames Valley area – Reading, Slough and Staines.  Working with the project teams across these projects which all commence in Q1 this year for 18-24 months duration.

This role would suit a planner with a few years of experience in the role, or a site manager with main contractor construction experience, who is interested in pursuing a career in Planning, with the ability to review and monitor progress against programme, plus plan construction works in detail for construction.

The role is to assist the Planning Manager and Project Teams in detailed planning for the schemes, review progress of works against programme, update and reprogram phases of work where necessary, review progress toward key milestones and key handover dates, etc.

Knowledge and understanding of construction processes, technical aspects of design and practical buildability, with the ability to construct a programme of works is more important than knowledge of the planning software.  Training in Asta and MS Project can/will be provided.

Working with the Planning Manager Head Office and project teams you will be likely to have input to 2-3 schemes at a time, working between office and site visits or site based on larger schemes.

The initial projects are all education schemes ranging in value from £16m to £30m, predominantly new build, but also 1 of the schemes comprises a large proportion of phases refurbishment works.

About the Company/Client/Project:

The role is with the north Hampshire based regional office of this leading main contractor, covering the Thames Valley/Hampshire areas;  Turnover s circa £100m for the region.

Scope of works includes education schools, colleges and university faculty buildings, commercial offices, local authority, leisure and industrial buildings, with projects typically ranging in value from £15m to £35m.  Workload is secured via a mixture of national and regional frameworks, competitive tenders, and negotiated work for repeat clients.

Requirements including certificates and qualifications:

Ideally from an Engineering and Site Management background with a main contractor, you will possess excellent communication skills, planning and problem solving ability, in depth technical knowledge with excellent attention to detail, and a positive, ‘get it right first time’ approach.

Experience of and ability to use ASTA Powerproject and ideally MS Project proficiently would be useful but not essential, plus the ability to effectively program construction activities for projects and practical site experience to support this.

You will possess sound technical knowledge together ideally with the experience of working with a large project main contractor construction team.

High standards, attention to detail and the drive to deliver the job on time, spec and budget will be well rewarded with excellent salary and package, promotional and development prospects.
