About this Role:
Ambitious Package Engineer / Assistant Site Manager with around 3-4 years of experience on required to work with the team on a £40m new build student accommodation scheme comprising 600+ rooms over 4 large blocks. The scheme is on site and construction is well under way on RC structures.
This role is to work with the Package Manager running the external envelope for the scheme, consisting of brickwork with some complex details, curtain walling, single ply membrane and slate roofs, window, etc. It will involve input to sub-contractor design coordination, short-term programming of work with the Package Manager, management and coordination of sub-contractors and works on site over a large area site, health and safety, quality assurance, associated paperwork and audit trails, through to completion and phased handovers of the building in the late summer and autumn 2019.
This is a technically challenging project. The role will suit an ambitious assistant site manager / site manager looking to gain more experience on a larger project with a Tier 1 national main contractor.
Reporting to the Package Manager and ultimately the Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing site based construction activities for your section, including short-term programming of works, health and safety, review of method statements, risk assessments, call off of materials, site logistics, quality control, inspection and test plans, client liaison, coordination meetings, reporting on progress against program, issue resolution, etc, snagging and handover.

About the Company/Client/Project:
The role is with the busy regional Surrey office of this leading national contractor with a proven track record in the successful delivery of projects ranging from £30mm to £300m in the commercial, higher education, mixed use residential, student accommodation, healthcare and retail sectors. Geographical patch focus is Surrey, South West London, and wider home counties area.
Workload is secured on a mixture of national and regional frameworks, competitive tenders plus negotiated works with repeat clients. Turnover for the region is circa £100m to £150m, with a high percentage already secured for the next 2-3 years.
With an excellent reputation for training development, and the opportunity for progression within the business, the business has a very low turnover of staff, and long term career employees in key management and director positions.
Requirements including certificates and qualifications:
The successful candidate will be highly motivated and proactive, demonstrating excellent technical, organisational, man-management and communication skills. A proven track record of work for a top twenty main contractor advantageous, but not essential.
You will ideally come from a construction management, engineering or trades background, be educated to degree level or similar NVQ level, with a sharp eye for detail and quality throughout. You will be forward thinking and proactive, possessing the ability to plan ahead, identify and resolve issues, work well within a team, see the big picture, with a positive, ‘get it right first time’ approach.
You will possess your SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications for this role.
