About this Role:

We are looking to recruit an experienced Earthworks Agent to join a principle contractor in civil engineering, whom specialise in highways, water, rail and aviation. Due to increased work load and recent successful tenders they are looking to expand the team; in particular to work on a large £80m highway project in the south west in collaboration with Highways England.

The project includes 3.5 mile road, upgrading and expanding of the existing single carriageway to a dual carriageway, three new junctions, two new structures and significant heavy earthworks. The original site comprises a mix of dual and single lane carriageway, which leads to localised congestion, impacting adversely on journey times and reliability. The scheme will reduce congestion, improve journey times and make our network safer for customers.

The earthworks are due to start in November and will be 1million m3 cut and fill in phases. You will be manging the logistics including the haul road during phase movement, stat coordination and impact on archaeology and ecological aspects. The Earthworks package amounts to £20m with a team set up of 2 foreman, sub agent and graduate engineers.

Duties are but not limited to:

Day to day management of a section of works including the supervision and monitoring of the site team and supply chain.

Plan, control and monitor the progress of the works and coordinate the section(s) of the project as allocated.

Manage multiple packages of work in conjunction with the commercial team taking full ownership of the costs for section of work assigned.

Ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), Permit to Work systems, site inductions and safety briefings are correctly carried out.

Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and problems that may arise.

Ensure and maintain strict quality control procedures.

Ensure site team keep site diaries up to date.

Effectively lead and manage direct reports ensuring appropriate competence is maintained, including annuals PDR’s.

Monitor capability of staff and contractors to undertake current and prospective workloads and report to senior management.

You will have:

Ability to work safely.

Able to manage multiple or larger packages of work

Read & Interpret data, drawings specifications and schedules.

Highly organised and able to prioritise multiple workloads.

Adept at interfacing with site team, subcontractors, designer and the client.

Strong knowledge of CDM 15.

Excellent knowledge of NEC.

Commercially Astute.

Able to interpret, extract and disseminate works information relating to program of works.

Requirements including certificates and qualifications:

Ideally you will hold minimum of HNC/HND Civil Engineering qualification with experience of self-delivering civil engineering projects.

You will also hold valid SMSTS, CSCS, First Aid and further related construction certificates.
