About this Role:
Ambitious/experienced Design Manager required by this busy national contractor, to manage the design process for a £30m large new build steel framed building in Farnborough. The scheme comprises the construction of a large new build steel framed building to be used for storage, repair and maintenance, so will contain high spec M&E services and specialist equipment. Work is due to commence is July for a 12 month programme of works.
Reporting to the Head of Design, and the Senior Project Manager for the schemes, you will initially work closely with the preconstruction and commercial team prior the commencement of the works on site in the summer; working closely with the project delivery and commercial team, you will be responsible for:
Management of the design development for packages of works;
Chairing regular design team meetings;
Management of consultant design team;
Regular liaison with client, architect, consultants and the construction teams;
Managing specialist sub-contractor design teams;
Agreement of information required schedule; Ensuring key dates achieved;
Review of construction design information for buildability, compliance with contractors proposals, employers requirements, budget, current building legislation, etc;
Identifying opportunities for value engineering opportunities where appropriate;
Proactive issue resolution;
Overall managing the smooth and timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction throughout the build process to completion summer 2020.
On completion of the initial project, you will also be responsible for critical input to tenders and second stage preconstruction with the regional business.
About the Company/Client/Project:
The company is a leading national main contractor, with experience and a proven track record in the delivery of complex new build and refurbishment schemes in commercial office, industrial buildings, secondary education, higher education and MOD ranging from £25m to 40m.
Turnover is circa £100m for the region overall.
Requirements including certificates and qualifications:
Either from an Engineering/Construction delivery or Architectural background, you will possess excellent technical and commercial knowledge, a keen understanding of construction methodology, materials and systems, procurement lead in times, etc.
You will have excellent communication and negotiations skills, strong planning and problem solving ability, initiative and a positive approach. In terms of character, you will be a highly driven, positive and ambitious individual able to work well within a large team dynamic.
You will ideally have a proven track record of successful project delivery with a recognised Main Contractor in a Design Management role.
