About this Role:

Assistant Design Manager required to work for a Regional Main Contractor based out of the Oxford office.

Projects range in value from £50K - £20M and include refurbishments and new build in a variety of sectors including education, commercial and health & leisure.

70% of the works will be refurbishment and the remainder new build.

The ideal candidate will have experience from pre-construction phase through to managing the flow of information and technical problems solving of delivery of the projects with your project team both from site and in supplier and client side project manager progress / design meetings as required.

Candidates will be looking to move to a company where there is a real opportunity for growth and promotion as well as the having the sizeable corporate backup needed to work on the larger schemes whilst still maintaining a regional, repeat business, quality based focus on every project.

You will be responsible for:

Supporting the process of assessing, preparing (including post-tender activities), validating, adjudication and final submission of tenders on time and to the required quality.

Managing the process of designing solution(s), in order to meet or exceed customers’ requirements

Supporting negotiations with the customer for the design solution retained at the end of the bidding process

Supporting the commercial relationships with customers, consultants, contractors and subcontractors during the tender and fulfilment processes

Supporting the handover of the project plan(s) (PEP) to the fulfilment team (procurement, contract management, commercial management and project management)

Identifying contractual, financial, technical and operational risks within tenders and to identify opportunities to minimise risk and maximise gross profit

Supporting the project teams to fulfil contracts safely, on time, and to the required quality while minimising costs

Ensuring the solution design is in line with the project budget and plan and the ‘integrated design programme’

Lead, manage and motivate design management staff and external consultants on projects to establish their full commercial contribution to the organisation


About the Company/Client/Project:

Top regional construction company with offices in Swindon, Oxford, Guildford and Bristol.

Carrying out design, build, restore and refurbish buildings throughout the South of England.

Projects range in size from smaller schemes to complex construction projects worth up to £20 million.

Sectors include education, leisure, commercial, retail, industrial, care homes, hospitals and education.

Requirements including certificates and qualifications:

You will have experience of working within the Construction industry for main contractors, specifically on D&B new build and refurbishment projects, more specifically within the Education sector.

Candidates must:

Hold or be working toward a construction / design related professional qualification - HNC/HND/Degree

Be a member of a Professional Body CIOB/RIBA/RICS

Hold a relevant CSCS card

Have main contractor experience on EFA Framework projects form pre-con to delivery on site / handover
