Preparing for an interview

The interview is your opportunity to shine and promote yourself to a prospective employer. Research shows that people make their mind up about someone within the first few seconds of meeting them. It is always best therefore to get off to a good start!

Your CV has won you an interview and given you the opportunity to promote your abilities face to face.

Recruitment is not an exact science therefore it is generally the interview performance that is crucial! Employers are generally more interested in your personality, presentation, fitting in with the team and previous experience.

You need to make sure that you are fully prepared for the meeting prior to the interview; the following points should help you in preparation;

Company background – visit the companies website.

Check products services vision etc, obtain financial information.

Company structure etc.

Prepare any questions you want clarification on eg company culture, training and development schemes projected growth.

Check the date and time of interview (allow plenty of time) be punctual.

Make sure you have the address and telephone number for the company and are familiar with their office location, parking and or public transport.

Make sure you know who you are meeting with and their position in the company. Larger companies can have many divisions and job titles, do not make assumptions.

Dress Code - be aware of the company culture and dress to match the environment.

Take your CV with you to ensure all details match what the interviewer has.

On arrival meet the interviewer positively with a smile and handshake.
